Hurricane Earl Heading Toward East Coast
Hurricane Earl has taken a swipe at islands in the northern Caribbean but there are no reports of casualties.
The latest reading puts Earl north-northwest of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Forecasters say Puerto Rico and other islands could still see 4 to 8 inches of rain.
Storm trackers say the storm could potentially brush the U.S. East Coast late Thursday, before curving back out to sea, potentially swiping New England or far-eastern Canada. But coastal residents from North Carolina to Maine are being urged to monitor storm reports closely. One expert at the National Hurricane Center says any small shift in Earl's track could determine if it will remain over the open ocean or turn toward land.
