DETROIT (WWJ) - A heat advisory remains effect until midnight Wednesday for Metro Detroit.

Not good news for hundreds of DTE customers battling the sizzling heat without power Tuesday afternoon.  An estimated 1,700 outages were reported in Metro Detroit at 5 p.m.

Earlier, an estimated 3,500 homes and businesses were without the juice in the vicinity of  8 Mile Road and Wyoming.

Seventy-five-year old Clarice Boggerty of Detroit said her power went out around noon.

"It is very hot because I was out earlier and was going to church but it was too hot, I can't go back home .. .I don't even know what the temperature is," said Boggerty.

It's not clear yet what caused the outage.  A DTE spokesperson said power should be back on later Tuesday.
