Hundreds Walk In Protest Of Domestic Violence
DETROIT (WWJ) - Members of the Detroit police department joined the 2.6 mile walk in the New Center area, including Chief of Police Ralph Godbee who says the focus is domestic violence against women:
"I hope the young men in this community understand that we are not to be perpetrators of violence against women in our community, but we are protectors; to be responsible men and to raise responsible young men to be men," said Chief Godbee.
The focus is on violence against women.
"Violence against women in our community ...we really have to take a vigorous stand against. It really affects our children," said Chief Godbee.
Nathan Johnson of 'Flip the Script' was one of the walkers: "Everyone should be able to live and be in a healthy relationship, and no violence should be occurring in relationships, period."
And although the focus of this walk was violence against women -- Dana Catt, of flip the Script understands personally that violence shows no discrimination...
"In remembrance of my father who was killed in a Detroit bar, 28 year ago, as of today, we all remember it, it was on the news and it was awful," said Catt.
October has been deemed Domestic Violence Awareness month -- and the group plans to focus on the cause all month-long.
