Hundreds Of Hopeful Detroiters Audition To Become Next 'The Voice' Star
DETROIT (WWJ) - They sang loud and they sang proud.
Hundreds of people gathered Saturday at Detroit's Cobo Center to audition for season 10 of the TV singing competition "The Voice."
Caleb Brown is from Lansing, but he now lives in Oklahoma. He just happened to be visiting family for the summer and he heard about the auditions. It's the second time he's auditioned for a show like this.
"I actually was on 'American Idol' and made it to Hollywood week in season 14, and I've kind of worked with that for a while doing a ton of individual performances," he said. "I haven't really watched much of 'The Voice' but I like singing and I think I have a good voice."
It was the first tryout for Gail Dotte, but you wouldn't know it. Dotte was singing at the top of her lungs in a room full of other contestants. It gave them a chance to size up their competition, she joked.
"I've been singing since I was 18-months-old and I'm actually a musician and a singer-songwriter, so yes -- this has actually been my dream my entire life," she said.
While most people are hoping to make it big as a singer, Shiheda Rahmad said if she wins, politics is on her agenda.
"I'm ready to rebuild the city. I'm all about where I live and I'm ready to help rebuild and get more businesses here so people can get jobs," she said.
If you missed the audition, you still have a chance at making your big break -- producers are accepting video submissions. For more information, click here.
