Hundreds Join 'Stand-Up For Religious Freedom Rally' In Downtown Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Hundreds rallied in downtown Detroit on Friday in a Stand-Up for Religious Freedom Rally.
Many, mostly Catholics, carried signs that said "Stop the H-H-S mandate and support religious freedom."
They're against the Health and Human Services mandate that calls on even religious institutions to offer abortion inducing drugs and contraceptives that they oppose.
Karen Fournier, of Memphis, Michigan was among them.
"That the federal government can mandate us to approve and have to go against our religious beliefs to support abortion," Fournier said.
Bunny Mondoux of Macomb Township is also calling for a repeal.
"If they wanna violate me conscience, they're going to have to violate thousands and thousands of people's conscience. They won't be able to do it," said Mondouz. "So, no one and no one is going to take away my freedom and my conscience."
The rally, organized by "Citizens For A Pro-Life Society" held outside the Macnamara Federal Building is one of many being held nationwide.
