Humane Society Offers $2,500 Reward For Info Related To Small, White Dog Found In Trash

DETROIT – The Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigation Department is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is responsible for placing an abused 4-year-old Maltese mix in a garbage can.

The dog, who has been named Edgar, was found Sunday, March 9 near Grand River and Warwick in Detroit.

MHS arrived on the scene Sunday at approximately 11 a.m. when a concerned citizen, who was walking his dog, called the MHS Cruelty Investigation Hotline after he found the abandoned dog in a garbage can.

The passerby was alerted to the dog's presence when he heard whimpering coming from the trash can.

The MHS rescue driver found that Edgar had the handle of a bag twisted around his neck and was covered in severe urine burns. It appears that Edgar had been confined at another location for a long time before being put in the garbage can.

Edgar was rushed to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care where he is being treated for multiple medical ailments. MHS is hopeful that he will make a full recovery. However, the recovery time and cost of treatment has yet to be determined.
