Medical Main Street's Sentio LLC Appoints Wider VP, CSO: Sentio LLC, a Southfield-based medical device company, announced the appointment of Michael Wider as vice president and chief science officer. In this new role Mike will lead the scientific programs and clinical trials at Sentio, working closely with the surgeon advisory board to direct research activities that promote a greater understanding of the science behind Sentio's products. Prior to joining Sentio, Wider was the vice president of technology and market development with Somanetics Corp. where he was responsible for medical education, regulatory affairs, clinical research and market development. In those roles Dr. Wider drove product adoption, a process that eventually led to the acquisition of Somanetics by Covidien in 2010. Earlier in his career Wider was a scientist in the Research Institute at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He joined the Gastrointestinal Peptide Research Center at the University of Michigan in 1987 and subsequently moved to industry where he became the vice president of technology for Diversey Corp, one of the Molson companies. As the senior technical officer he was responsible for regulatory affairs, health and safety, R&D and the intellectual property portfolio. He later joined Pfizer Global Research and Development in 2001 as a Director in Strategic Alliances before moving to Somanetics in 2006. Dr. Wider is an adjunct assistant professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine and has published 42 book chapters, articles and abstracts. He holds six patents. Dr. Wider holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and a PhD in medical physiology from Wayne State University School of Medicine. In June, Sentio launched its first product, SentioMMG, a proprietary nerve-mapping tool that allows surgeons to accurately locate and identify nerves during surgery. This device enhances the ability of surgeons to perform minimally invasive surgery, making surgery faster and safer.
