Plex Systems Appoints New Board Member: Auburn Hills-based Plex Systems Inc., developer of the Plex Online cloud-based ERP software system for manufacturers, announced the appointment of Edwin J. Gillis to its board of directors. Gillis joins the five-member board and will head the newly formed audit committee. Gillis is currently a member of the board of directors of LogMeIn (Nasdaq:LOGM), Responsys (Nasdaq:MKTG) and Teradyne (NYSE:TER), as well as several private technology companies. He led audit committees at BladeLogic and EqualLogic until their acquisition by BMC Software and Dell, respectively. Gillis has held senior level positions at companies including Skype and Avaya, providing guidance and counsel during mergers and acquisitions. Earlier, he was a senior vice president of administration and integration at Symantec Corp., which he joined as a result of Symantec's merger with Veritas Software Corp., where he had been the chief financial officer. Previously, Gillis was chief financial officer at Parametric Technology Corp. and Lotus Development Corp. and an audit partner at Coopers & Lybrand. Gillis holds a bachelor's degree in government from Clark University, a master's degree in international relations from the University of Southern California and a master's in business administration from Harvard Business School. Manfredi Joins Coherix as Automotive VP for the Americas: Don Manfredi has joined Ann Arbor-based Coherix as vice president of the firm's automotive operations in the Americas. Coherix is a pioneer in the development of three-dimensional machine-vision technology to detect manufacturing defects in powertrain and other precision automotive components. Manfredi had been responsible for Inos Automation Software's North American operations based in Farmington Hills. Prior to joining Inos, he was COO at Variation Reduction Solutions in Plymouth, and had held a series of key management positions in marketing, account management and application engineering at Perceptron, also in Plymouth. An adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University's College of Management in Southfield, since 2006, he holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Michigan State University and a master's degree in business administration from Lawrence Technological University. Based on research conducted at the University of Michigan, Coherix technology makes it possible for original equipment manufacturers to visually detect for the first time variations in component surface quality critical to product performance. The company's high-speed, non-contact ShapPix and Robust 3D systems are designed to improve quality, lower costs and shorten new-product development time.
