UM Business Engagement Center gets new leadership: Daryl Weinert, executive director of the University of Michigan Business Engagement Center, has been appointed to the newly created position of associate vice president for research - sponsored programs at UM effective May 1. In this role, he will lead UM's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Stella Wixom, BEC's Director of Corporate Relations, will become Interim Executive Director on May 1, ensuring the continuity of its services to the business community and the campus while the university recruits a permanent replacement. A UM alumna, Stella brings more than 20 years of corporate experience in marketing, sales, and customer service to her new leadership position. One of her previous roles was UM Campus Manager for Nortel Networks where she developed partnerships with UM focusing on talent, research and philanthropy. In her four years at the BEC, Wixom has managed relationships with a far-ranging portfolio of companies and is currently leading UM's participation in the Michigan Corporate Relations Network. Daryl Weinert has been Executive director of the BEC since it was founded in 2007 to facilitate industry access to university expertise and resources. It now manages relationships with more than 1,000 companies, and is contacted by nearly 200 new companies each year. As associate vice president, Daryl will oversee efforts to facilitate the development of sponsored research funded by industry, government, and other organizations. Among his top priorities will be to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization while strengthening its customer-service orientation.
