Howard Placed On IR, McCollum Recalled From Grand Rapids
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – The Detroit Red Wings recalled goaltender Tom McCollum from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and placed goaltender Jimmy Howard on injured reserve on Sunday.
McCollum, 25, has appeared in 21 games for Grand Rapids during his sixth AHL season, posting a 10-8-3 record with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage and has won each of his last five starts, dating back to Dec. 27.
Howard injured his groin early in the first period of a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Washington Capitals on Saturday, just hours after being named to the 2015 NHL All-Star roster.
Petr Mrazek will presumably fill in for Howard as the starting goaltender. Mrazek has a 2.29 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage in nine games this season.
