Howard Inducted Into College Football Hall Of Fame
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WWJ/AP) - It's been 20 years since University of Michigan star receiver and kick returner Desmond Howard won the Heisman Trophy.
Howard said it's hard to believe two decades have gone by since that honor.
Saturday night Howards' glory days of college football were officially recognized when he was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Asked what the biggest change is today from when he played for the Wolverines, Howard had a quick answer: the spread offense. And then he let out a big laugh, saying just imagine what he could have done in that type of offense where quickness and speed are used to create mismatches for the defense.
Howard was one of 16 players to be enshrined. Four coaches were also honored.
Howard played for the Wolverines, went on to play for the Washington Redskins and then continued his career as a commentator for ESPN.
The induction is probably a PR relief for Howard who was last in the news for a back and forth squabble he had with former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms.
Howard had tweeted about an alleged confrontation between Simms over comments that Howard had made about Simms' son, who was a quarterback with the Tennessee Volunteers.
