Howard Gets 30th Win As Wings Beat Blues 3-1
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Red Wings make it 17 straight wins at home beating the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Monday.
As heard on WXYT 1270 - Jimmy Howard picked up his 30th win of the season - lifting the Wings to victory in a very physical game with Central Division rivals the Blues.
Howard had 21 saves and a rumble in front of goal with just seconds left in the game and was called for roughing.
"It's called keeping your composure ... you've got to pick your moments and I picked mine," said Howard in a post game interview. "They've been such fun games ... it's the closest thing to playoffs during the regular season."
When asked about the milestone 30 game win in net Howard said, "It's great anytime a goalie gets 30 wins in a year - I'm very fortunate that I play on a great team."
The Wings were down 1-0 in the second period when Pavel Datsyuk scored on a power play and Johan Franzen followed it up scoring with a backhand shot to give the Wings what would be their winning goal.
Niklas Kronwall put the game out of reach with a third period power play goal.
St. Louis pulled goalie Jaroslav Halak in the final minutes of the game but could not convert the man advantage to score.
