How Would Pistons Sale Affect Oakland, Wayne Counties?
The Palace of Auburn Hills has been home to the Detroit Pistons for more than a quarter of a century. What would it mean for Oakland County if it were to lose the team?
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson says the county's economy doesn't really depend on entertainment venues like the Palace and if the deal for Illitch Holdings to buy the Pistons goes through, he says he knows a decision to move the team or not will be a business decision.
"I'm not giving up on it, but I'm not at the table. I'm a casual observer watching this," Patterson told WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis. "I know my people have made phone calls. I'm trying my best to keep them here. Ultimately, it's going to come down to a business decision made by the owners as they think it's in the best interest of their business."
Brooks also told Davis that he hopes it's in their best interest to keep the Pistons at the Palace.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing said Wednesday there are a "couple of options" where Mike Ilitch could build a new arena to be the home of the Detroit Red Wings and Pistons. (More on this).
