House Dems Announce Fight School Cuts App for Mobile Devices
LANSING -- The Democratic caucus of the Michigan House of Representatives Wednesday announced the release of an app for Android, iPhone and Blackberry devices tied to their FightSchoolCuts.com Web site.
The app, the first one available on all three major mobile platforms from any caucus in the state, allows residents to input their ZIP code or use GPS locating to access school cut numbers.
"Our residents are rapidly relying on mobile devices to access the information they need on demand," said State Representative Roy Schmidt, D-Grand Rapids. "The Fight School Cuts app is another way that we in the House Democratic caucus can directly relay important information to our residents about how much money their schools are losing due to Republican cuts to our schools this year."
The app also allows users to connect directly to the mobile version of the FightSchoolCuts.com Web site, which contains stories submitted by Michigan residents on how the Governor and Republican cuts to our schools are impacting the classrooms at ground level. The app can be installed through the QR codes on FightSchoolCuts.com, or by searching for "Fight School Cuts" in the Apple App Store, the Android Market or the Blackberry App World.
"We expect the best from our students, teachers and administrators and that includes understanding the role technology will play in turning Michigan's economy around," said Schmidt. "While embracing technological trends allows us to reach a broader audience, it is also another tool to connect our concerned parents and families with the hard facts about how their communities are hurting because of these unnecessary cuts and will give them a greater voice in the school funding debate."
