Hospital Drives Program For HIV-AIDS Testing
DETROIT (WWJ) - Have you been tested for the virus that causes AIDS?
At Detroit Receiving Hospital, Dr. Patricia Brown, Chief of Medicine and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Disease at Wayne State School of Medicine, says a program has been underway for five years that targets patients coming into the hospital's emergency room.
Regardless of why someone comes in for treatment, Brown says, they are offered testing for HIV-AIDS.
Test results are provided on the spot. Newly diagnosed patients receive referrals for treatment.
And speaking of treatment, combination drug therapy is still used.
But, many patients only have to take one pill containing three drugs -once-a-day.
HIV testing is advised for anyone who is sexually active.
