Hooters Tries To Make Moms An Offer They Can't Refuse
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Mother's Day traditions vary by family, with some buying flowers and taking Mom out for a fancy brunch, and others going the do-it-yourself route.
But Hooters is hoping to start a brand-new Mother's Day tradition you may not have considered.
Known for its busty, scantily-clad wait staff, Hooters is offering a free entree of up to $10 to anyone who brings in a child on Mother's Day this Sunday.
Although Hooters periodically offers free wings as an initiative to get more people in the door, this is the first time they've given away an entire meal. Proponents say it's meant to broaden the appeal of the chain, that had previously been marketed only to men of a certain ilk.
Adding to the effort to draw more women, is a new array of entree salads, priced at $10 or below. Salads include chopped cobb, shrimp and spinach, Caesar and chicken garden varieties.
"It's not as diabolical as you think," Dave Henninger, chief Hooters marketing officer, told USA Today. "We know you don't think of Hooters as a typical place to take Mom, but we want to make it more appealing for Mom to come in." Hooters' five new entree salads, all priced under $10, are one attempt by the chain to appeal more to women, he says.
He added the offer is expected to draw about 20,000 moms nationally.
