"Honor Thy Mother" Motown Revue Celebrates Moms & Fights Chronic Diseases
DETROIT (WWJ) - A married Detroit couple is hosting a Motown-themed fundraiser to honor mothers and raise money to help fight chronic diseases.
The "Honor Thy Mother Motown Revue" on Saturday, May 5, 2012 will celebrate motherhood and raise money to help longtime nurse and event co-producer Melissia Franklin provide medical care -- free of charge -- to the local community.
"This is a fundraiser to help purchase equipment ... especially the cholesterol devices, so I can continue and be consistent doing health screenings and educate the congregation in the community," Franklin said.
Three well-known acts will perform, including Liv-N-Proof, Serieux and The Original Vandellas. They'll take to the stage in the 1,700-seat Fellowship Chapel, located at 7707 W. Outer Drive in Detroit.
"I love my mother very, very dearly, and she's my best friend," Franklin added. "And so, I'm giving her, her flowers while she lives -- and all mothers."
Melissa Franklin's husband, Joseph Franklin, is co-producing the gala.
"Motown music is music of love and celebration of humanity -- for both men and women, which is why we chose Motown; and also being originated here in Detroit." "No one can do Motown like Motown people."
The gala includes the concert, dinner and shopping with local vendors.
Ticket prices range from $35.00 to $50.00.
