Honor Paid To Fallen Former Detroit Officer
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Wayne County Sheriff's office pays tribute to a fallen officer while a memorial service takes place at same time in Denver, Colorado.
WWJ's Beth Fisher reports that Wayne County Sheriff's officers on patrol ran their lights and their sirens and lights to honor Denver Police Officer Celena Hollis, a former Detroit police officer.
Hollis was sworn in by Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon when he was Detroit's police chief in 2001.
Officer Hollis was shot and killed while trying to break up a fight in Denver last Sunday.
Hollis was a 32-year-old single mother who had been with the Denver police force since 2005. She was shot in the head at Jazz in the Park on Sunday evening and was pronounced dead at Denver Health Medical Center.
An officer in Detroit says it's a fitting tribute that should be accorded to every officer killed in the line of duty.
