Highland Park Mayor Recovering From Gunshot Wound Suffered At Detroit Club
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - Highland Park mayor Deandre Windom is recovering from a gunshot wound after visiting a Detroit club early Sunday morning.
Windom was an innocent bystander at the Key Club on East Franklin above Steve's Soul Food.
Another group got into an altercation and Windom was shot in his leg, according to Detroit Police Spokeswoman Kelly Miner.
"No other person hurt or arrested - it just seemed like he was not involved in it, that's what I've been told by detectives that are working this case," said Miner.
Miner says Windom was taken to the hospital by his own security. He is in stable condition.
Police do have video from the club. One suspect is in custody. Miner calls the incident "unfortunate" but does say crime is down in the city -- saying police responded in seven minutes.
