Highland Park Mayor Focused On Deficit Elimination Plan
HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - The mayor of Highland Park is putting together a financial team as he works to stave off the threat of an emergency manager stepping into his city.
In his first 30 days in office, Highland Park Mayor DeAndre Windom said he's been focused on completing a deficit elimination plan to submit to the state.
"I will fight this battle until the battle is over. So, I mean, I wake up every day knowing that we're faced with challenges and knowing that, you know, people just want to come in here and pull the plug on the city," Windom told WWJ's Vickie Thomas.
The city is currently facing a deficit of over $11 million, and Windom said he's bringing in help.
"I'm putting together a financial advisory team of qualified, competent individuals who will work to help the city of Highland Park," said Windom.
Late last month, Governor Rick Snyder appointed Certified Public Accountant Jack Martin as the emergency financial manager for the city's school district.
