Highland Park Apartment Fire Under Control

HIGHLAND PARK (WWJ) - Firefighters have controlled a fire at a vacant apartment building in Highland Park.

The fire started around 5:30 Saturday morning. Witnesses say the building on Stevens and John R was totally engulfed in flames.

"I saw it from the freeway. I was down by the farmers market and saw the flames and when I got up close to it at McNichols and the freeway at 75, you could see flames going 100-150 feet in the air," a witness said. "The entire building was engulfed. There was fire coming out of every window."

Highland Park firefighters remain on the scene, but say the fire is under control. So far, there have been no reports of injuries.

Officials have yet to determine a cause as to what started the fire.
