High School Student Faces Sentencing In Bomb Threat Case
MONROE (WWJ/AP) - A high school senior faces sentencing in connection with a bomb threat at his school in southeastern Michigan.
Milan High School senior Anthony Caputo is scheduled to be sentenced in Monroe County Circuit Court on Thursday.
According to prosecutors, Caputo made the threat on Facebook on Oct. 8. Officials at the school weren't notified of the threat until almost a week later. At that time, police say they searched the school and found nothing.
The 17-year-old reportedly made the threat because he was upset over a teaching method known as Problem Based Learning, in which students work in groups to solve solutions while developing academic skills, The Monroe Evening News reported.
"You don't know what it's like," Caputo's post read. "I constantly fantasize of blowing up the wing as I walk away with the explosions behind me."
When one of his Facebook friends asked if he was making a threat, Caputo responded by saying "Yes, let me make it more clear. I Anthony Caputo will bomb the new project based learning wing of Milan."
After being arrested, Caputo allegedly told police he was frustrated with school and decided to post on Facebook to voice his aggravation.
Caputo pleaded guilty to a felony count of making a false report in exchange for prosecutors dropping a felony charge of using a computer to make a threat.
