Help Wanted: Salvation Army Looking For Volunteer Bell Ringers
DETROIT (WWJ) - Ready to do your good deed for the holidays? Consider this: The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is seeking volunteer bell ringers for this year's Red Kettle Campaign.
The Salvation Army is encouraging metro Detroiters to register at www.ringbell.org to help fill shifts as bell ringers this holiday season at hundreds of locations throughout the area.
Volunteers can sign up for a time, date and location. After the shift has been confirmed, volunteers simply show up at the appointed location, where they will be provided a Red Kettle and bell. When the shift is over, a Salvation Army worker will return to pick up the Red Kettle.
All donations collected during the Red Kettle Campaign assist local families and individuals in times of need. The Salvation Army uses 85 cents of every dollar raised to provide direct services to those in need. These funds help maintain vital human services such as food and shelter for children and adults throughout the year.
Last year, the Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division raised a record $8.87 million through the Red Kettle Campaign, which runs from November through the end of January.
Consider what dropping cash in the kettle can provide:
• $10 helps to feed one person for a month
• $25 helps buy one coat to keep a child warm
• $50 assists with services such as meals, lodging, transportation and clothing for a family victimized by fire
• $120 helps feed one person for a year
• $1,000 provides one month of shelter, counseling and meals for a homeless family
