Help Pours In After Dexter Disaster
DEXTER (WWJ) - The aid is beginning to come in for Dexter. The Salvation Army is one of many organizations helping out in the wake of Thursday's tornado.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher spoke with Chuck McDougall, director of the Salvation Army's emergency disaster services.
"There is a shelter set up at the middle school and the Salvation Army also has a shelter set up in Ann Arbor where they housed 6 people last night that actually they weren't from Dexter, but they were flooded out last night," McDougall said.
McDougall said they're also providing food to those who need it. He said the best way for those outside Dexter to help is with monetary donations.

One of the neighborhoods hardest hit is right behind the Busch's Market.
"We're taking in their frozen and refrigerated items and storing them for them," said Busch's vice-president of marketing, Marla Booth. "All we're asking is that they give us their name and phone number. We're tagging all the boxes & then shrink wrapping their food and then putting it in our freezer and refrigerator til they can take it back."
Booth said they're donating water to people who need it. They've also been feeding firefighters and volunteers.
"We're just asking other community members if they would be willing to just round up their orders, say from $5.50 to $6 and then we'll donate that 50 cents on their behalf to support Dexter disaster relief," she said.
Meantime, the LaFontaine Automotive Group along with Chelsea State Bank have established a Dexter Relief Fund.
