Hearing Postponed For Suspect In Child's Pregnancy
MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - A Macomb County man won't face a preliminary exam on charges of sexually assaulting and impregnating an 11-year-old girl until next month.
Monday's exam was adjourned for 28-year-old Trevaun Brooks because his attorney, Chris Aiello, said the prosecutor has not given him all of the evidence they have.
Brooks has plead not guilty to the charges involving an ex-girlfriend's daughter.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher asked Aiello how is client is doing.
"He's concerned and so is his family and so is the community about the charges," said Aiello. "I do believe that there are people supporting him in the community and of course, his family is very supportive of him. He seems to be a very warm and gentle soul."
Aiello is urging the public to keep an open mind.
"[Brooks is] innocent until proven guilty, and I will represent him with all the power God has given me," Aiello said.
The girl, now 12, gave birth in August She and the baby are in the care of state Child Protective Services.
Brooks is being held on $1 million bond.
