Hearing For Man Charged In Trooper's Traffic Death To Resume Next Month
CLARKSTON (WWJ/AP) - After a day of tearful testimony, a preliminary hearing for a Waterford Township man charged in connection with the death of a Michigan State Police trooper is being put on hold for a month.
A Clarkston District Court judge will decide whether 69-year-old Charles Warren, who is facing charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, will stand trial in connection with the death of Trooper Chad Wolf.
According to investigators, Wolf was on patrol Aug. 28 on Dixie Highway and I-75 in Springfield Township when Warren's car, which was towing a trailer collided, with his motorcycle. Police say 38-year-old Wolf was snatched from the motorcycle, trapped beneath the trailer and dragged several miles before Warren pulled into a freeway rest area.
On Wednesday, witnesses took the stand in Clarkston District Court and described seeing something being dragged by a trailer attached to a car Warren was driving. One witness said sparks were flying from the trailer.
Warren faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. A preliminary hearing resumes on February 24.
