Hearing Delayed For Suspects In Nursing Home Abduction
TAYLOR (WWJ) - A preliminary examination for three suspects in Taylor, accused of kidnapping a 90-year-old man from a nursing home last month, has been delayed.
The 54-year-old Alfred Khattar of Lincoln Park and his 25-year-old son, Ted Tomes of Ypsilanti, are charged with unlawful imprisonment in the abduction of Floyd Pickrell from Regency Health Care in Taylor. A third man, 50-year-old Darrell Howard of Detroit, is also accused.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting reports attorneys for all three men agreed that they would need an entire day of the court's time, and asked for an adjournment.
Prosecutors believe robbery was the motive, saying the men first tried to sign Pickrell out of the facility for dinner. When that plan failed, they returned later and lifted Pickerel over a wall.
The alleged abduction occurred July 19. Pickrell was recovered on July 22.
The preliminary exam was rescheduled for August 11 at 8:30 a.m. in 23rd District Court in Taylor.
