Hearing Delayed For Mom In Detroit Police Standoff

DETROIT (WWJ) - There's been another court delay for the Detroit mother who had a lengthy standoff with police earlier this year.

Maryanne Godboldo is facing assault and other charges from the March incident.   Her attorney, Allison Folmer, says her client was never shown a  court order to remove her mentally impaired daughter from her home.

Folmer told reporters that police threatened to kick in the door.

"Detroit Police are trained, if you're dealing with mentally ill people, you don't use force," she said, adding that officers should not even have been at the scene.

"You're not to assist in executing a civil order ... That means, whatever court it came from, that's the Wayne County Court. Madama CPS (Child Protective Services) worker, you need to call the Wayne County Sheriff's," Folmer said.

The case will resumes July 25 at 36th District Court, giving time for both sides to file motions in the case.

Godboldo stands accused of discharging a weapon and felonious assault stemming from a 12-hour standoff with police in March. She said officers failed to produce a warrant when they arrived at her home to remove her 13-year-old daughter.

The mother had been at odds with the Department of Human Services over whether the teen should continue to take anti-psychotic medication. After the standoff with police, the teen was placed in a psychiatric hospital. The girl has since been released and is now with a relative.

A spokesman for the family says Godboldo has received support from people around the world.
