Hearing Adjourned In Winans Carjacking Case
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A key hearing has been adjourned for three young men charged in the assault and carjacking of popular Detroit pastor and gospel singing icon Marvin Winans.
The men, 20-year-olds Montoya Givens and Christopher Moorehead, both from Detroit, and 18-year old Brian Young, from Clinton Township, were scheduled to appear for a preliminary examination on Friday.
But the Wayne County prosecutor's office says the hearing was pushed back to June 11.
The three defendants are charged with carjacking, unarmed robbery and conspiracy. The charges carry up to life in prison.
Winans, who delivered singer Whitney Houston's eulogy in February, was attacked May 16 while pumping gas in Detroit.
Police said Winans was beated up before the assailants took his Rolex watch and about $200 in cash. They then took off in Winans' luxury SUV, which was found abandoned in Detroit the next day.
The 54-year-old sustained bruises and scrapes.
