HBO Series Filmed In Detroit Is 'Hung' Out To Dry
Fans of seeing metro Detroit on the small screen will go into mourning today: "Hung" has been hung out to dry.
That's right, the HBO series that opened every week with the fist of Detroit and the lakes of West Bloomfield, is over. HBO announced the cancellation of "Hung," along with its original series "How to Make it in America" and "Bored to Death."
Starring Thomas Jane as a well-endowed high school football coach who moonlighted as a male prostitute, "Hung" was periodically filmed at places like the Somerset Collection in Troy, West Bloomfield neighborhoods, downtown Royal Oak, the Detroit Institute of Arts and the old Tiger Stadium.
It averaged 3.9 million viewers a week, who got an eyeful of metro Detroit as it's rarely depicted, as a sometimes gilded place.
So, what happened? It's the entertainment world's oldest story. "Hung" was down 44 percent in viewership from last year, according to Variety, and HBO wanted to make way for something fresh.
