Hawaii Holds Off Western Michigan, 78-68
HONOLULU (AP) — Christian Standhardinger and Keith Shamburger each scored 17 points to lead Hawaii to a 78-68 win over Western Michigan in a second-round game at the Rainbow Classic Saturday.
The Rainbow Warriors (2-0) led by three, 39-36, at halftime and trailed by a point, 53-52, with 10:22 left to play.
Isaac Fotu scored six straight Hawaii points and Quincy Smith scored the next eight for a nine-point lead.
Fotu finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors, who won the past two Rainbow Classic championships and play former rival New Mexico State in the third game of the four-team, round-robin tournament Monday night. Smith added 13 points off the Hawaii bench.
Kellen McCormick and David Brown each scored 14 points to lead the Broncos (1-1), with guard Jared Klein coming off the bench to add 13 points on 4 of 8 shooting.
