Have A Great Idea? UberPITCH Takes Entrepreneurs And Investors For A Ride
DETROIT (WWJ) - Your big business break could be arriving shortly — in an Uber.
Metro Detroiters are invited to pitch their business ideas to prominent local investors this Wednesday in a car hailed through the popular ride-sharing service Uber.
A YouTube video posted by the company explains how "UberPITCH" works. Would-be entrepreneurs get picked up by an Uber car carrying a top investor from Detroit ready to hear those pitches and offer insight.
You'll have 10 minutes to ride with your investor, and all UberPITCH rides will be free.
"It's really just about thinking of ideas and opportunities and making that connection for people," Uber spokesperson Leor Reef told WWJ's Zahra Huber.
"It's something we have done in a few cities around the country, and we decided it's Tech Week in Detroit and it's also Entrepreneur Week. There's no better time to get involved in kind of the entrepreneurial spirit and bring UberPITCH to Detroit."
Thinking about giving it a shot? Program partner Ted Serbinski, with Techstars, offered a few tips:
"When entrepreneurs are pitching investors, the biggest thing really, for me, is explaining why you are doing what you're doing, what's the story behind it, what's your passion that aligns with the business, and what's the problem that you're solving," he said.
To participate, just download the Uber app (if you don't have it already), and enter the promo code "PITCHDET."
The service will be available in the downtown Detroit area for one afternoon only: Wednesday, May 4, from 1 to 5 p.m.
