Hamtramck Facing Money Troubles, Holds Town Hall
Is bankruptcy still an option for the city of Hamtramck? That's one of the questions being tackled Thursday night during a town hall meeting.
City leaders want input from residents on Hamtramck's growing financial dilemma. With a $3 million budget deficit, city manager William Cooper says Hamtramck could be out of cash by the end of March.
Last year the city asked then-governor Jennifer Granholm for permission to file for bankruptcy, but the state offered loan options instead. Cooper wants to revisit the bankruptcy request with new governor Rick Snyder.
The town hall meeting gets underway at 6:30pm Thursday at Peoples Community Services.
