Pit Bulls, Guns, Cash Variety Of Drugs Seized In Downriver Bust
DETROIT (WWJ) - A three-month undercover investigation by a special law enforcement task force has shut down what police say was a major drug operation in the Downriver area.
Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw says the Downriver Area Narcotics Organization (DRANO) led the raid on two homes — one in Detroit, and Harper Woods — seizing guns, illegal drugs and other items.
One person, a 41-year old Detroit man who police say commutes to the Downriver area to sell drugs, was arrested. His name was not immediately released.
"We were able to uncover a large amount of narcotics: both powder and crack cocaine, heroin, 33 marijuana plants, and also 311 grams of processed marijuana, some cash, and a 2008 SUV between the two addresses."
"It's unusual for one person to have quite the variety, so to speak, of different narcotics in the house," Shaw added.
Shaw said they also uncovered evidence of dog fighting at the alleged dealer's Detroit home.
"During the search warrant at the Detroit address, the detectives also located and seized nine adult pit bulls, six pit bull pups, and numerous [paraphernalia] used for dog-fighting," said Shaw. "The dogs and all that evidence was turned over to the Michigan Humane Society for some type of prosecution."
DRANO was assisted in the bust by special units from Macomb and western Wayne County.
