Ready to be scared? Not just generic, run-of-the-mill scared -- but really, truly frightened?

Then batton down your hatches and join the Pontiac Regional Chamber for Hauntfest, an event created by the infamous Erebus Haunted Gallery in Pontiac, the Downtown Business Association, the Greater Pontiac Sesquicentennial Commission and Mind Vision Productions & Film.

The two-day event happens Friday, Oct. 14, and Saturday, Oct. 15. It features Halloween-themed live entertainment, costume and makeup tips, horror movie showings, savings on food and beverages downtown and special tours of Erebus, billed as the world's largest haunted house. Is it the scariest, too? You be the judge. -- Christy Strawser

Overview

The fun begins at noon Friday and Saturday on the streets and inside the businesses in downtown Pontiac. Celebrate the grand opening of Studio 48, an art and antique co-op with rustic furniture by Kevin Thompson and plenty of good stuff from the Aspen Collection. Erebus' four stories of haunting opens at 6 p.m. on Perry Street and stays open until 1 a.m. Workshops on costume creation, special effect makeup, horror flick filming and more will happen inside Fancy Pants, and the Mind Productions & Film office, hosted by Mind Vision Productions & Film. 4 Brothers Martini Bar, Crofoot-Eagle Theater, JD's Dueling Piano & Coyote Club and Bo's Smokehouse and BBQ will show horror movies Friday and Saturday and host live bands and DJ's. Saginaw Street will have street performers and live music.

Zombie Walk

Saturday is zombie day. That means only the undead are welcome. So put on your best white greasepaint, grab your goriest threads and meet your fellow zombies at the Phoenix Plaza entrance off Saginaw Street. The walk starts at 7 p.m.
