Guide To The 2014 Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Everybody's Irish on St. Patrick's Day, especially during the St. Paddy's Day parade in Detroit, a day full of green beer and Irish good cheer.

Assembling at 11 a.m. Sunday at 6th Street and Michigan Avenue, the 56th Annual Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade will pay homage to the city's rich Irish past.

Parade Route
The event will begin promptly at noon, as the parade route makes its way west down Michigan Avenue. It will last about two hours.

The Participants

Tom and Birdie Flynn will serve as grand marshals for the parade, which will feature marching and pipe and drum bands, color guard units, floats, clowns, novelty groups and marching units.

The Corktown Races 2014

Of course, it's also a day for big eating -- corned beef, anyone? -- so the 32nd annual Corktown Races are a great way to kick off the day.

The races will take place along Michigan Avenue right before the parade, with 8,000 runners divided into five-year age groups, starting at 5 years old. The top three male and female finishers will receive autographed items or jerseys from the Detroit Pistons.

Commemorative medals will be given to all runners and each participant will be eligible for two suite tickets to a Pistons game.

Proceeds from the race benefit the St. Patrick's Senior Center food programs and the Chass Community Health & Social Services Center. Get more information about the race here.
