Group Accuses Snyder Of Targeting Middle Class
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - A small group protesters gathered outside the Farmington Hills Manor, Friday, where Governor Rick Snyder has been invited to speak before a joint meeting of the Farmington Hills Area and Livonia Chambers of Commerce.
The protesters say they are unhappy with the way Governor Snyder is planning to balance the state budget.
I have a pension and my grandmothers have pensions, and I feel like he's attacking that," one man told WWJ.
"Now, if he wants to do something constructive, he can start targeting the Corporatocracy which runs our country here. And, maybe some of the very rich should be taxed, and what about the legislative salaries? Why doesn't he start with that?" he said.
"We want him to stop this -- targeting the middle class workers," said another protester.
"We want him to stop breaking the unions and stopping collective bargaining. We want him to stop targeting our teachers and schools. We have a lot of money for wars and everything, but not enough money for education and for schools," he said.
Protestors carried signs that read "Stop Attacking the Middle Class."
Meantime, in Lansing, another group of protestors say they plan to sleep outside in cardboard boxes at the state capitol Friday night, in hopes of getting the attention of Governor Rick Snyder. They're calling it a "Snyderville" demonstration. (More on this).
