Groundbreaking For Apartments For The Homeless
DETROIT (WWJ) - A host of friends, supporters and beneficiaries of Cass Community Services joined together at a groundbreaking for the renovation an apartment building for the homeless.
"As long as you have friends that you can text or tweet or call or smoke signal or snail mail or email or scream for, anything is possible --even a $10 million building," said Rev. Faith Fowler, speaking at Wednesday's event.
The abandoned 41-unit Antisdale Apartments at Elmhurst and Woodrow Wilson will provide housing for the homeless, managed by Cass Community Services.
Laurie Moulding was among the volunteers who took part in the groundbreaking.
"I walked in homeless," Moulding told WWJ's Florence Walton. "I didn't know what to do. I was lost. I was from the suburbs . How do you be homeless if you're in the suburbs? Completely unexpected ... I couldn't have made it without Cass."
The renovation is expected to take about a year to complete.
