Grosse Pointes Get 'Distributed Antenna' System
Boston-based American Tower Corp. (NYSE: AMT) Friday announced that it has deployed an outdoor distributed antenna system network throughout the Grosse Pointe area in response to increasing wireless coverage needs.
American Tower has deployed a multi-carrier capable system in six Grosse Pointe area cities that uses existing utility poles in the public right-of-way. T-Mobile is the anchor tenant on the system.
Said Gerard Ainsztein, American Tower senior vice president: "The outdoor DAS helps wireless providers deliver focused coverage while preserving capacity on the macro network and balancing community aesthetics. The result is greater network capacity and improved signal quality."
American Tower recently completed another large-scale outdoor DAS network in Barrington Hills, Ill. These installations add to the company's growing portfolio of 200 plus in-building and outdoor DAS networks.
