Grosse Pointe Student Identified As Robbery Fatality
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Grosse Pointe Park varsity football player is being identified as the suspect killed in an attempted armed robbery of a retired police officer.
18-year-old Demere Hudson, who attended Grosse Pointe South High School, died in the incident Sunday. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office tells the Detroit News that Hudson was shot multiple times.
Police say the shooting happened near a store on 7 Mile in Detroit when the 65-year-old retired officer was allegedly approached by Hudson.
The superintendent of Grosse Pointe Schools released a statement expressing sadness over the incident and said counseling would be available for students at both high schools.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the shooting.
