Grief Or Sadness May Be Part Of Special Days
DETROIT (WWJ) - While many people will celebrate mom on Mother's Day, others are grieving the loss of a mother or child. Mary Smith of Detroit knows first hand about both.
She lost her five year old son to Leukemia in 1994 and just two years ago, Mary's mother passed. She has this advice for anyone feeling the sadness this Mother's Day.
"Use those resources that are around you, if there is somebody who says, "if you ever want to talk give me a call," pick up the phone and call that supportive person, and let them just listen to you, it's okay to talk about it," says Smith.
Smith adds that if you allow yourself to go through a healthy grieving process, while your life may never be the same, you can still live and enjoy life.
"It may be weird to even smile or laugh after feeling such intense grief, but in time ... you'll be able to genuinely smile again and genuinely enjoy your life again," says Smith.
