Green Building Seminar Coming To Henry Ford West Bloomfield
The Detroit Regional Chapter of the US Green Building Council is launching a series of educational presentations throughout South Eastern Michigan as part of its new "Green Seeds" program.
The first event is scheduled Thursday May 19 at the new Henry Ford Hospital of West Bloomfield; 6777 W. Maple Rd., the largest Michigan hospital project meeting national green-building standards and a recipient of a 2011 Detroit Free Press Green Leader Award.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a light breakfast, presentation from 8:30 to 9:30 am.

Eli Popa, Director of Support Services for Henry Ford Hospital West Bloomfield will give an overview of the LEED certified building, and Joseph Colleran, LEED Green Associate and Sales Manager for W.J. O'Neil Company will also present the informative "Green Seeds" session, a valuable introduction to sustainable building management and low-or-no-cost practices for greening business entities.
The mission of the USGBC-DRC "Green Seeds" program is to provide knowledge to those responsible for making or influencing building operations decisions in regard to reasonable starting points for integrating sustainable measures into everyday business practices. It is a reality that many buildings are not yet able to pursue LEED certification, but education about low-and- no-cost improvements and policies can contribute to being more efficient and lowering operating costs on a comprehensive scale.
The new LEED certified Henry Ford Hospital of West Bloomfield offers the latest in medicine, technology and patient safety, integrated with wellness and prevention programs. The $360-million hospital opened with 191 beds, below the 300 for which it is licensed, connected to an existing medical center built in 1975, Henry Ford West Bloomfield occupies the north 80 acres of the wooded, 160-acre site. Plans for the southern 80 acres include walking and biking paths for community use. The 730,000 square foot, four-story hospital is environmentally friendly, preserving the natural character of the site and blending in with adjoining residential neighborhoods.
