Great Lakes Wine Fest Returns To MIS

BROOKLYN (WWJ) - The Great Lakes Wine Fest returns to Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, May 21 for a day of drinks, entertainment and fun.

The Great Lakes Wine Fest is a celebration of Michigan wine, beer and food. So far, 25 of the state's finest wineries have signed on to showcase and sell more than 100 varieties of wine including, Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet and others.

Seventeen of the state's best breweries and several Michigan food vendors will also be featured, making the Great Lakes Wine Festival a made-in-Michigan event.

"This is a great event that does a lot to highlight the unique tastes that Michigan wines have to offer on both a local and state level," Jackson County CVB Executive Director Mindy Bradish-Orta said in a statement.

With 14,000 acres of vineyards and about 70 active wineries across the state of Michigan, the Great Lakes Wine Fest presented by the Jackson County CVB is perfectly and conveniently situated at MIS in the southeast corner of the state.

Guests may sample wines, beer and food from Michigan vendors, and buy favorite wines by the bottle or case. The festival's on-site retail store will have select wines and beer available for purchase at the event.

In addition to wine and beer sampling, seminars covering wine, food and other topics of interest will be held throughout the venue.

Wine festival attendees can kick off the event at 1 pm with a multi-step presentation on how to get the most out of wine tasting by Burgdorf's Winery. Attendees will learn techniques on how to interact with wine allowing them to experience the many moments in wine.

Those interested in the classic wine aroma wheel should stop by Cherry Creek Old Schoolhouse Winery's presentation at 2 pm. This event is designed to help both beginners and wine connoisseurs learn about wines and the complexity of wine flavor.

Chateau Aeronatique is also scheduled to present a special topic featuring Wine and Flying Stories by Lorenzo Lizarralde at 3 pm.

At 4 pm, chocolate lovers can check out Sandhill Crane Vineyards' presentation discussing the ever-popular pairing of wine and chocolate. In this presentation, participants will learn about how to pair different styles of chocolate with different wines.

"Live music really sets the ambiance of the event," MIS President Roger Curtis said in a statement. "There's nothing that goes better with great wine and beer, than good live music!"
