Grants Awarded To Revitalize Vacant Lots In Detroit

DETROIT (AP) — Nine Detroit-based grassroots organizations will receive $97,000 in grants to help revitalize vacant lots in the city.

Detroit Future City's Working with Lots Grant Program encourages community groups, faith-based institutions, nonprofits and businesses to install one of 38 lot designs to address storm water concerns, activate community spaces and to create more attractive neighborhoods.

The program provides technical assistance, education and funding to transform vacant land into intentional, productive and well-maintained landscapes.

The Troy-based Kresge Foundation is providing funding for lot design implementation, maintenance and educational programming for organizations receiving grants this year. This year's grantees include Arboretum Detroit which will receive $12,000, the Bailey Park Project which will get $7,000 and the Canfield Consortium which will receive $10,000.
