Grant To Help Develop Water Trail
A $10,000 grant will help fund the development and launch of a water trail along Lake St. Clair.
Macomb County recently announced that the Lake St. Clair Tourism Development Program was awarded Coastal Community Development funds from Michigan Sea Grant that will support creation of a trail map.
The trail will run along the coast of Lake St. Clair, and will be suited for open water kayaking and other paddling sports, much like the Detroit Heritage River Water Trail,
Clinton River Water Trail, and Thumb Water Trail.
"This water trail is part of what will eventually be a state-wide system of water trails," Lake St. Clair Tourism Development Specialist, Kristen Grifka, said in a statement.
"We would be the link between a planned water trail for the St. Clair River and an existing one along the Detroit River."
A trip is scheduled for the middle of this month to begin assessing launch points, safe harbors, rest areas, and points of interest for the creation of the guide map.
The information gathered will culminate with an official launch next summer.
