Granholm Book Focuses On Push To Save Mich. Jobs
LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm's new book doesn't shy away from the devastating job losses that left the state in a one-state recession for most of her governorship.
Yet the Democrat also takes credit for fighting for the beleaguered auto industry and looking for jobs in the film and green technology industries to make Michigan less reliant on the Big Three.
"A Governor's Story: The Fight for Jobs and America's Economic Future" officially goes on sale Sept. 20. A Lansing-area bookstore began selling it Thursday and it's already available for order on Amazon.com.
Granholm co-wrote the book with her husband, Dan Mulhern. They focus on how the changes forced on Michigan can be examples of what the nation must do to compete in a global economy.
The Amazon.com discription reads, in part: "Jennifer Granholm was the two-term governor of Michigan, a state synonymous with manufacturing during a financial crisis that threatened to put all America's major car companies into bankruptcy. The immediate and knock-on effects were catastrophic. Granholm's grand plans for education reform, economic revitalization, clean energy, and infrastructure development were blitzed by a perfect economic storm."
Granholm was Michigan's first female governor, serving from 2003-10.
