Governor Wants Flags Lowered For Sept. 11th
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Granholm also is encouraging people in Michigan to observe a moment of silence Saturday at 8:46 a.m., the time the first jetliner crashed into the north tower at the World Trade Center in New York.
Granholm says reflections on the ninth anniversary of the attacks will help ``honor the memories of the victims and heroes of that day and keep their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.''
Granholm also is encouraging people to observe the National Day of Service and Remembrance. She plans to volunteer at a Habitat for Humanity event in East Lansing in recognition of the Day of Service.
