Governor Weighs In On Debt Ceiling Debate
DETROIT (WWJ) - Governor Rick Snyder is weighing-in on the debate over the federal debt ceiling.
WWJ's Stephanie Davis reports that the governor says just "look to Michigan" as an example.
Gov. Rick Snyder says the way the state (of Michigan) balanced its budget by using a combination of cuts and new tax revenue is a good formula for dealing with deficit.
"We went from a situation where we didn't have a truly balanced budget for a long time to having a balanced budget - that's looking at our balance sheet and our long-term liabilities and saying .. we are reaching a bottom point now where we can start investing in our state in a very positive way," said Snyder.
"So if anything ... if you have a chance to talk to the people in Washington - tell them to look at Michigan - we are a good place to use."
Snyder says it was difficult to ask of sacrifice from a lot of people, among the sacrifices ... taxing some retiree pensions.
