Gov. Snyder Talks Flint, DPS And The Road Ahead At 'Pancakes & Politics' Forum
Gov. Rick Snyder took to Michigan Chronicle's "Pancakes and Politics" stage at the Detroit Athletic Club before a sold out crowd of 500 and talked about the Flint water crisis and other things including Detroit Public Schools.
It marked the sixth year in a row that the state's top elected official appeared on the "Pancakes" stage.
The forums, staged by the Michigan Chronicle, is in its 11th year. The paper, owned by Real Times Media, is among the largest and oldest African American owned papers in the country.
The session, held Monday was taped and highlights will air this Sunday as a special "Michigan Matters" 11:30 a.m. Sunday on CBS 62.
Snyder spoke to the audience about improvements in the state since he took office. He mentioned the decreasing unemployment rate and better business climate.
He also talked about doing what he could to help Flint deal with the lead-tainted water crisis that took place under his watch.
The hour long forum included questions by "Michigan Matters" Senior Producer/Host Carol Cain, Vickie Thomas, City Beat Reporter at WWJ Newsradio 950, and Keith Owens, Senior Editor of the Michigan Chronicle.
The signature spring time event also had a few audience questions too including one from Osama Siblani, publisher of the Arab American Newspaper, who asked Snyder about allowing more Syrian refugees into Michigan.
There were questions about the future of DPS and getting more funding in place to keep the district going after the current school year winds down.
