Gov. Snyder Names New Pontiac Emergency Manager
PONTIAC (AP) - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed a new emergency manager for the city of Pontaic, which faces a projected $12.5 million deficit.
The state Treasury Department announced Friday that Louis "Bud" Schimmel will become Pontaic's emergency manager effective Monday. He'll fill the post held for the past 14 months by Michael Stampfler. The state says Stampfler resigned from the job effective Friday.
Schimmel, who grew up in Pontiac, most recently has been executive administrator for the City of Warren. He plans to work with Pontiac's elected officials to address the city's financial emergency and continue efforts to return the city to local control.
Schimmel also has been a court-appointed receiver for Ecorse and emergency manager for Hamtramck.
